I address
envelopes for a variety of occasions: weddings,
anniversaries, business parties, Christmas cards, announcements,
etc. A variety of colored inks are available as well as
gold and silver. The latter colors, however, are best used
on the inner envelopes. Text using these inks can be very
difficult to read. There are three basic
"hands":" Copperplate as in:
Italic,
as in:
and
Uncial, as in:
Other
hands are available by special request with extra charges.
It is important to add however, that printed fonts are not
always possible to duplicate by hand. Also, the type of
paper used will often dictate the use of different letterhand.
In preparing your list:
- Please use a font of 12 points or larger.
- Be certain that the first names are written out as you
want to see them on your envelope. For example, if the
name on your list is written as "Jack", I will
write "Jack", not "John". Since
your occasion will be formal, full and proper names are best
on your envelopes.
- If you are preparing your list using a computer database,
please alphabetize. This will make it much easier to
proof the envelopes.
- Unless otherwise directed, I will:
write out in full, "Apartment 222";
women's names will be listed first;
"and Guest" and "and
Family" will occur on the inner
envelope only;
children's names will appear on the inner
envelope as:
Mr. and Mrs.
Smith
Jane, John and
Nancy
- I will use "Ms." unless you tell me otherwise.
- The Post Office likes us to use the full nine-digit zip
code, but it really does not add to the elegance of the
envelopes!
Important Notes:
When ordering envelopes, please allow about 10% extra.
For example, if you have 90 addresses, order 100; for 150
addresses order 165.
Timing: with a well-prepared list, I can complete a
set of 100 envelopes in one week. Allow two weeks for 200,
etc. It is most important, however, to call ahead to alert
me to your schedule.
Other work:
I also create books, broadsides and certificates for special
occasions. Call about these services.
